Treatments for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and the Treatment of Victimized Clients

Since treatment of PTSD is a systemic problem, the solutions offered here are systemic in nature and design. To that end, each demonstration audio tape, audio tape set, book and handout presents treatment from a different and overlapping perspective. Depending on a therapist's experience, sophistication and style, the materials can stand alone or be used synergistically with each other.

These function of these procedures is to soften or remove the responses originally experienced in past traumas and replace them with current, more accurate understandings and resources. As a result, the client no longer overreacts to the old situations.

The perspective supporting the materials recognizes the importance for the victimized client to be able to move past the limited identity of "victim" to see him or herself as a "survivor". However, the conscious identity of "survivor", in time, can also limit the client's identity.

The purpose of the Beyond Survivor series is to help the client move to the next step where being a "survivor" transforms from a conscious identity to an unconscious assumption.

The hard-earned learnings of the past trauma are used as an unconscious and flexible strength to increase life's meaning, satisfaction, fun and play.

Volume I:
The Reconstruction of Meaning
For the Treatment of Shame-Based Disorders and the Intrusive Symptoms

These procedures represent the core of the Beyond Survivor and Cognitive/Imaginal therapies workshops. These procedures help resolve the trauma and shame of past childhood physical, emotional and sexual abuses as well as the amelioration of the traumas caused by accidents, natural and man-made disasters. Treatment for the intrusive symptoms of nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive recollections, dissociative reactions, traumatic depression and overreactions to internal and external cues are addressed.

Volume II:
Letting the Unconscious do the Cognitive-Behavioral Work
For the Treatment of Anxiety, Avoidance and Hypervigilance Symptoms

This volume is a practical synthesis of the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the Unconscious and PartsWork workshops, which teaches the therapist how to let the client's unconscious mind do all the basic and repetitive work associated with the cognitive-behavioral therapies. Treatment for phobic avoidance, overreactions, age regressive behavior, dissociative responses, self-defeating behaviors, maladaptive relationship choices, anger outbursts and hypervigilance are addressed.

Resource Guide

This is a supplement to Volumes I and II. It contains six case histories that were chosen to demonstrate different applications of the Interactive Imageries procedures. Transcripts are from two successive sessions with the same client, demonstrating how PartsWork/CBT procedures can complement the C/I Self-Reparenting interventions.

Basic Self-Reparenting Guided Imageries Procedures
This tape is highly suggested if you are planning to purchase Volume One. It contains demonstrations of basic reparenting procedures, specialized history-taking techniques that makes use of birth-order information, presuppositional language and parental projections.

Childhood Physical Sexual Abuse Trauma
This tape demonstrates how Self-Reparenting Guided Imageries can be used to affect the impact that a sexual molestation can have on an adult. The Self-Reparenting basic steps, "android" and empowerment procedures, and the Dos and Don'ts of revenge fantasies are demonstrated.

Psychological Sexual Abuse and Gender Invalidation
This tape demonstrates how Self-Reparenting Guided Imageries can be used to reduce the impact that a psychologically dehumanizing event during childhood can have on the sexual development of an adult. The use of the therapist's affect is highlighted in this tape.

The tape demonstrates the basic PartsWork procedures that are the foundation of all of the specialized techniques applied to individual clinical populations. This tape is highly suggested if you are planning to purchase book Volume Two.

Cognitive / Imaginal PartsWork Audio Tape Set
This is a 7-audio-tape album set recorded live at a introductory PartsWork workshop. Through didactic and live demonstrations, Dr. Landis teaches many of the procedures described in Volume Two: PartsWork.

This set includes basic procedures for clients who have developed maladaptive protections that result in dissociative disorders, over-reactions and compulsions. An important part of this tape set is the demonstration and instruction on contacting The Interface, a symbol through which clients can communicate with their unconscious.

In addition, these tapes present supplemental procedures not found in the book for clients who have amnesia for past traumas that are affecting their current lives and need to resolve or reduce the responses without seeding memories.
